February 8th, 2010

New year, new beginnings…. and instead of sticking to any new years resolutions we’ve simply begin a new decade with a nice new studio. Now we’re situated on the West side of Berlin in Charlottenberg. Full address on the website.

5 reason why I love Copenhagen Airport

November 30th, 2009

1) It’s simply uncomplicated. The staff are friendly and relaxed, yet still with an ‘at your disposal’ sort of attitude. I arrive with several different currencies and I can pay with all of them. Euro, Swedish and Danish Kronor, as well as any debit or credit card.

2) Shopping. It’s not a big airport, but what it offers is, in my eyes is great quality. A nice selection of men and women’s clothing and accessories, carefully chosen Scandinavian products from companies like Eva Solo, Royal Copenhagen, Norman Copenhagen, Mooti to name a few.

3) Style. I know I’m a half Dane, half Swede, and on top of that a designer which when you read the facts I should have good style in my blood…. but somehow I always feel like I didn’t bring the right outfit when I’m in Copenhagen, as eveyone is so well dressed and has incredible style.

4) The design. Copenhagen airport is open, light, functional and aesthetically pleasing on the eye. One navigates to and from the gates aided by the grace of a beautifully designed little trolly. When you have time to kill you can shop, or choose to go to the quite area where there are some very nice wingback chairs where you can curl yourself up for a snooze or read a book.

5) The cafe’s also offer good food, any excuse to have an open sandwich with prawns or similar is always welcome

And just to show that I can also see the faults in things I’ll also say what I don’t like about Copenhagen airport.

Starbucks.

Enough said.

Busy busy

November 23rd, 2009

So I’ve been back on the studio this last week having been busy with a big interiors project which has taken me on site for the last couple of months. It’s all systems go with enquiries from magazines still rolling in. This week I received my first request from a German magazine, Home Deco.

The Klara couch will be featured…. January I think.

Bespoke commission completed

November 13th, 2009

This week a commission for a coffee table was completed and delivered to a client in Berlin. The brief was to design a coffee table with 4 legs, a glass top and a shelf to be made out of teak and that would fit into the current surroundings well.

Sometimes the simplest designs are the most challenging. How do you make such a seemingly ‘normal’ table into something really special.

It was a really great commission and a pleasure to see it this week. I’m really pleased with the results… I wouldn’t mind one of my own.

More photo’s can be found on the ‘work & projects’ page.

Italy calling…

October 31st, 2009

Last week I was in Italy on a flyby visit to the Italian capital of design.

It was business and pleasure which always makes for a nice escape from the usual routine. On the business side of things there are a few things on the boil with an Italian manufacturer which I shall update on if it comes into fruition, and on the pleasure side of things I got to see Milan in a new light, enjoying it with my brother around Milan’s own little Venice, which is in the south west part of town around Porta Genova.

I’ve previously found Milan grey, often rainy and exhausting, but this time Milan presented itself in a new light. I enjoyed a couple of beautiful, sunny autumn days, found some much more cosy, yet still buzzing areas, ate some great pizza, and found a few treasures at the market along the Navigilio on the Sunday.

I can highly recommend the market for buying jewellery, paintings, vintage and antique furniture, as well as a lot of beautiful old light fixtures and chandeliers.

Here are a few snaps for you to get a feel for the market, as well as a some interesting Graffiti, shapes and inspirations we saw along the way. The markings on the pavement I found particularly interesting as they look so random, yet you find the same kind of markings all over the place, as if it were a stamp.

Klara in The Sunday Times

October 18th, 2009

Since the show I have been busy sending out lots of images and texts for press requests, working up ideas from commissions which were generated through the exhibition as well as working on an interiors project which is also taking up a lot of time. It’s all pretty exciting and I’m feeling that the hard work and preparation of the last year is finally paying off… this is what it’s all about.

Today my Klara couch will again be featured, this time in the Sunday Times! Follow this link to read the article.

Tent London 2009

October 16th, 2009

The time seems to have flown by since my last entry, and it’s now well over due. Since then my furniture landed safely in UK, and I spent 2 weeks in London, preparing, participating and recovering from my first exhibition which was at Tent London on Brick Lane.

I had a truly brilliant show, getting lots of interest in my debut collection, ‘Fabula’, from both private buyers, the press and interior designers. Here are a few snap shots from the show.

The stand at Tent London (E14)

Turns out the my colour palette is next seasons big thing!

In the run up to the show Sophie Brown, interiors stylist for the Observer Magazine picked out my Ribbon coffee table as one of the top 16 pieces to be seen during London Design Week, which was naturally a great way to start the show. Below you’ll see the feature.

And whilst I’m on the topic of Tent I would also like to say a big thank you to all those people who helped me realise the collection and show, as well as all those friends and colleagues who came along to to see me.

With the buzz of Brick Lane below us it really felt that Tent London was the major creative hub of London for 4 days. I was also lucky enough to be situated opposite the stands of 2 super designers Tom Lovegrove http://www.tomlovegrove.com and Guy Brown http://www.guyandbrown.com with whom I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know and debating the life of a young design studio.

As the show opened my work was also featured in ICON and onoffice Magazines with my Klara couch. And then on the 1st October the November issue of Utopia magazine featured a double page spread about me and my studio. You’ll find the article below. It still be on sale incase anyone is interested in getting a copy.
