As is typical with Berlin there is always something eventful going on. You could say every city is eventful, but I really feel that Berlin has a unique and accessible feeling to what goes on in and around the city. I can’t image London being able to cope with something like Gay Pride, as well as a large street festival in one day! Or if that happens you only know about one, not both.
Anyway, today was such a day… Around lunchtime we joined some friends for the Christopher Street Day parade, which was brilliant. A great atmosphere, costumes and loud music. (Picture might give you a snippet into the day)
And then we went onto the Bergmannstr. festival later in the afternoon, where there were 4 or 5 stages with different musical acts and theatre. Something totally different, but equally good. In particular we saw a fabulous… I guess you would describe them as a jazzy blues band. The musicians came from all over the States and they totally rocked!

Last night I attended the regular monthly Create Berlin Input evening and as always there was a great atmosphere and interesting programe. They had Roland Meyer from the band Voltaire playing a solo acoustic set which was brilliant. I checked out the rest of their repertoire when I got in today…. so if you’d also like to take a look http://www.voltaire-musik.de I think I preferred the live version, but then that’s me, I always do.

Berlin’s design festival, DMY is currently under way. I like to think I’m pretty up to date with design fairs, and general design news, but before a few months ago I hadn’t heard of this exhibition. I was lucky enough to have a friend visiting Berlin for business the last few days so, what with her being a fellow designer we were both able to enjoyed a few hours looking round some of the open studios as part of the DMY exhibition. One our favourite things was stopping by my fellow Create Berlin member Susanne Philippson’s studio. Her light designs are really elegant, quirky and functional. Nice work!

This is Nemis. It is on the west coast of Sweden in Skåne, not far from Höganäs. The artist has created this structure using only timber which has been washed up on the shore. It is the most extraordinary thing. I’ve been here a few times over the years…. but it never fails to wow me. One requires some endurance to get there as you have to walk a few kilometers through a woodland before you reach the cliff where it all begins. The entrance to Nemis lies on the edge of the forest where the sea cliffs begin. The structure looks much like the photo, only you just see a tunnel of drift wood before you, here you have to climb through it and walk in its maze like climbing frame before you reach the big boulders which lie on the shore.

I don’t think I need to say too much here…. beautiful sunsets. Taken in Ängelholm Sweden.

I haven’t previously mentioned my rug, Majestic which I’ve slowly been tinkering away with in the background. The progress has been quite painless and after much research I was able to find someone who could make me exactly what I wanted. The rug is now finished. The colour combination I picked out works well, it took a long time to decide on it and I wasn’t sure how well the two colours would work on a larger scale, but in the end I was able to pick out the right shade to match with the same lime green which ties the Ribbon coffee table and the drawer fronts of the Mazey sideboard together.

CREATE BERLIN is an initiative by and for Berlin Designers. I came across them on the internet whilst researching the design scene here in Germany and I thought that this would be a good way to make contact will fellow designers here in Berlin as well as it offering an exciting opportunity to be involved in a larger design initiative.

The Mazey sideboard is officially finished and got delivered to the studio today… it is really sexy
I also had a further highlight to my day….. Asa Jobs confirmed that they will sponsor the fabric for my couch. Unfortunately they are out of stock so will have to wait a while for it to be finished. Very, very, very happy. Thank you Jobs!

The frame for the couch is now ready… tick.
Whilst I was there we discussed the different options for the cushions, tried out different densities and came up with some nice solutions.

I have used a Jobs Handtryck fabric for the upholstery during the development of my couch Klara. I’ve had such good feedback about how well the fabric works with the design of the couch that I decided to contact Jobs directly a few days ago and see if they would be interested in sponsoring me the fabric for the first couch. I sent them an image of the couch and a few other pieces and this was the response.
‘Galet snyga möbler’ OR ‘Crazy beautiful furniture’… I will keep my fingers crossed now that they go for it!
